WARNING: because of limitations in the budget, GCP21 will not offer any plane ticket, and will only offer a free registration and a free room for selected people, after registration, submission of the abstract and acceptation of the abstract.
WARNING: the age limit for the applicants has been set to 40 years old in 2018.
WARNING: room accommodation will only be provided in one of the 3 hostels in Cotonou. They are clean, comfortable but simple and only with air ventilation. Breakfast is included for all.
WARNING: acceptation of the travel grant will automatically warrant publication of the abstract, poster or ppt on the GCP21 website. Check it out with your leader before accepting the travel grant.
Application for a Travel Grant
The Conference is sponsoring a Travel Grant Program to help young people to attend the IVth GCP21 International Conference, Cotonou, Benin, June 11-15, 2018. Candidates will have to apply on-line, their candidature will be reviewed by a Travel Grant Program Committee and selected candidates will be granted a fellowship to attend the Conference. The fellowship will contribute to cover all major local expenses and the candidates will be responsible for funding the necessary complement.
The way to proceed
Candidates will have to fill the registration form on-line and they will have to provide a short bio to support their candidature. If selected, the candidates will have to formally accept the fellowship, and the granted resources will then be allocated to the grantees.
Deadline to apply for a fellowship
The application for a Conference Travel Grant fellowship is January 1, 2018. The application system will be closed on May 1, 2018.
Who can apply?
Any scientist, developer, communicator… working on cassava is eligible provided that he/she is under the age of 40 before the end of 2018. Applicants having already part of the resources to attend (plane ticket?) will have a greater chance of obtaining a partial fellowship.
What will the full fellowship provide?
The full fellowship will provide the registration fees, and the hostel accommodation for the duration of the Conferences (6 days max). All candidates will be responsible for obtaining a visa to go to Benin, if required, and will have to cover all other expenses (local transportation in the country of origin, plane ticket, taxi, meals…).
What are the obligations of the fellows?
Candidates granted with a GCP21 fellowship will have the obligation to participate to the 5 days of the Conference, they will have to present a poster or an oral presentation, they will de facto accept to post their abstract, poster or presentation on the GCp21 website, and they will have to provide a one-page report explaining what they gained from attending the Conference. In case of absolute need, fellows may be requested to share a room with another fellow.
Candidates who will be granted a fellowship, in case of an issue to get a visa or for any other reasons, rendering them incapable to attend the Conference will have to communicate their incapacity to attend in the shortest delay, so that the fellowship could be awarded to another person. Failure to do so, and absence at the Conference will automatically remove their name for travel grants in future GCP21 conferences.
Please do not wait and apply as soon as Travel Grant Registration is opened. There will be a limited number of fellowships!
